I have been voting in each elections since the fall of communism in 1989. Last Sunday was my first time that I didn’t vote.
You know why?
Actually, I am in majority of Poles. Only about 24% Polish citizens decided to vote this time. There are several reasons for that:
- As 76% of Poles I am really disappointed and disgusted with what politicians do. Not only because they promise things and they don’t keep their word. They just stopped pretending that they try to represent someone. They just represent their own party (in best case, worst case is they represent only themselves) and everything they do is only to be elected once more.
- I always used to be a good mathematician, but I am not able to understand the rule who will be elected and who won’t. The mathematic algorithms have nothing to do with common wisdom. You vote for a guy you know and like, but it is the party or this crazy mathematician who says – no, no, our algorithm says that someone else form the same party you voted for will be elected. Your vote is a sort of hint for our voting machine which decides for you. That’s why I like the British voting system where you vote for a person, not for a party. It’s simple and everyone understands it.
- Do you think there are many polititians who have more reasons to be elected than a 35.000 EUR a month salary? I doubt…
- Do I think that a few hundred guys from different countries should decide how our life in Poland should look like? No, I don’t
So that’s it. More or less.
I was watching TV on Sunday evening seeing all this enthusiastic and nervous guys and and I was really happy that I didn’t participate in this great democratic event.

Voting is my civic obligation. I know that voting every election on the same thieves and liars is boring. That’s why I go and vote on Koziolek Matolek, Gaska Balbinka or even Bugs Bunny (sometimes). Staying at home is worst solution in my opinion.

I distinguish between Polish and European elections. I will probably vote in Polish elections, but this European… no, thank you
